MOWOC Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing volunteer programs and contributing to fundraising and development efforts at Meals on Wheels Ocean County. This position will recruit, train, and manage volunteers, support home delivered meals and transportation teams, and play a vital role in supporting the Advancement team in their community outreach and fundraising. The responsibilities of this role require a strong commitment to the organization’s mission and the ability to engage and inspire volunteers and donors.

Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the entire Advancement team, agency volunteers, and donors. This position is ideal for someone who is creative with the ability to successfully share Meals on Wheels Ocean County story with the community.

Salary – $45,000 – $65,000 depending on experience

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Volunteer Management:

a. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.

b. Develop and implement volunteer orientation and training programs.

c. Create and maintain volunteer schedules and records.

d. Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions.

e. Regularly evaluate volunteer programs to meet organizational needs.

f. Foster relationships with community partners and organizations to enhance volunteer engagement.

2. Marketing & Communications:

a. Help create compelling content to share Meals on Wheels Ocean County work with the community.

b. Prepare volunteer recruitment materials and outreach strategies.

c. Collaborate with the Advancement team to promote volunteer opportunities and fundraising initiatives.

3. Overall:

a. Back up Home Delivered Meals Team and learn roles and systems.

b. Work independently and as a team player to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects.

c. Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: some college required, may be currently enrolled
  • Database: Experience with databases.
  • Communications: Skilled in creating compelling written, oral, and graphic communications. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials.
  • Project Management: Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Team Player: Works well in a team setting and is willing to support other team members on various tasks and projects.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current volunteer/donor relationships and to forge new ones. Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Relationship Building: Skilled at cultivating meaningful relationships with community stakeholders and with other Meals on Wheels Ocean County staff to deepen knowledge of the agency’s work.
  • Ability to serve and advocate for under-resourced populations preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work hours are flexible to meet the needs of the agency and our community. Evening and weekend work for special events and engagement activities may be required. A combination of in-office work, work from home, and community engagement events should be expected.

MOWOC Driver

Location: Manahawkin and Toms River

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday; varied shifts and routes with start times between 6:00 AM and 8:15 AM; approximately 6.5 hours per day

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

The Driver is responsible for operating agency vehicles to deliver meals to homebound seniors throughout Ocean County. This role includes maintaining accurate delivery records, communicating with supervisors, keeping vehicles clean and safe, and providing a dependable, compassionate connection to seniors in the community.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Safely operate agency vehicles while delivering meals to assigned routes.
  • Deliver meals to homebound seniors in a timely, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Use a cellphone to record meal deliveries in the Mobile Meals database.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records and communicate route updates or concerns to supervisors.
  • Navigate delivery routes efficiently using maps, route sheets, or mobile tools.
  • Keep agency vehicles clean, organized, and safe for daily use.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support daily meal delivery operations.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to work and drive safely in all weather conditions.
  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable using mobile devices, digital communications, and computer-based documents.
  • Must own and maintain a cellphone for work-related use during working hours; cellphone reimbursement provided.
  • Compassion, patience, and sensitivity when interacting with older adults.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 30–50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to climb four or more steps without assistance
  • Ability to repeatedly enter and exit a delivery vehicle (40+ times per day)
  • Ability to perform duties outdoors and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to assist with site cleaning and maintenance as needed
